The balance of camera stabilizer refers to three aspects: static balance, dynamic balance and the balance between the right and operator.
Beautiful fluid shots can be achieved only when all these three aspects are achieved. By static balance, it means the natural upright and vertical position of the sled when hung on the docking bracket while the camera stays level. Dynamic balance comes after achieving static balance. When the sled is statically balanced, spin the sled slightly. If the sled can rotate steadily and vertically without tilting, then it’s dynamically balanced. The balance between the rig and operator refers to the state where, after putting on the whole rig, the sled remains at a desired position without moving around. Only after achieving these three kinds of balance can perfect shots be captured and great efforts saved during shooting.
When ideal static balance is achieved, the sled should hang perfectly upright and the camera stays level. Spin the sled gently to see if the sled could rotate steadily.
The static balance of the sled means three aspects: fore and aft balance, side to side balance and top-bottom balance. Before start adjusting, take precaution. Choose a stand that match the weight of the rig and put sand bags on the legs of the stand to prevent accidental tip-over.
